Design is part of all aspects of our daily lives. It’s in the products and services we use, the art we enjoy, the spaces we move and work in, and the processes that run our companies and societies.

On 1 June 2023, TEDxAntwerp and ANTWERP. POWERED BY CREATIVES. join forces to highlight the power of design and creativity. During the TEDxAntwerp Salon: The Power of Design, thought leaders from the creative industry will take the stage to share their insights.

Storytelling was the one superpower that set us, human beings, apart as a species in the course of evolution. Now that technology is evolving faster than we can grasp: how do we embrace and implement these new innovations in our creative process?

Yasmin Van de Werf shares her personal struggles in evolving from a diehard paper storyteller to an immersive one. Juggling hype cycles, shiny new tech and artificial competition and trying to keep faith in the “survival of the creative storyteller”. Yasmin Van de Werf grew up knowing she wanted to tell stories.

Today, she is the co-founder of Poppins & Wayne, a creative agency that aims to produce meaningful digital experiences where storytelling and innovative technologies enhance one another. Poppins & Wayne’s first production, PeaceCraft, a story-driven mobile game about young refugees, won a prestigious Henry Van de Velde award in 2019. In 2021, the studio released Pollinator Park, a virtual wake-up call about the ugly future we face without flying insects.

In addition to her role as narrative designer and creative director, Yasmin also rekindled her life-long love for illustration, with a first children’s book published in 2020. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
